When we first started out 27 years ago, we were one of the very few food manufacturing companies with the capabilities to manufacture small runs of ethnic flavoured cooked meats.
Back then there was growing consumer demand for Indian convenience meals and our skills were of great interest to the emerging ready meal manufacturers. It was around this time that one of the founding directors of our company attended a historical talk in York with the theme of British Generals. He was interested to learn about General Samuel James Browne, who spent his career in India and apart from winning the Victoria Cross, is famous for designing a belt that still carries his name. The Sam Browne belt made it easier to carry a sword and pistol with one arm, having lost his own winning the Victoria Cross. The Sam Browne belt was to be adopted by the British Army and is still used today.
This was the inspiration for our company name Sam Browne Foods and today it continues to define us as pioneers in providing bespoke food products for our customers. Interestingly our very first customer was Asda and we produced curried chicken wings for them. All those years later, we continue today to work closely with food retailers, food service and, food manufacturing companies and to develop and manufacture bespoke products in partnership with them.
We are committed to sustainability at Sam Browne Foods and continually evaluate our environmental impact. The sourcing of all of our products and ingredients is carried out to stringent quality standards, with full traceability in our supply chain.
We strive to minimise the environmental impact of our operations, enabling us to make a positive contribution towards a greener planet.
Our manufacturing and energy efficient methods have sustainability at their core. A newly installed heat recovery system extracts heat from our refrigeration system and uses this energy to heat our water. This has proved to be an excellent way of reducing our energy consumption and is another measure of our vision as a sustainable business.
We incorporate sustainability in our operations and minimise all food wastage. All of our cooking oil and fat waste is recycled to be used in sustainable bio fuels.
Here at Sam Browne Foods, we will continue to set and achieve ambitious sustainability targets for our business and to build sustainability into everything we do as a responsible business.
